THE WAR-TORN JOURNAL

- Journal Entry #5-

Scripture: “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of יהושע Messiah His Son cleanses us from all sin” Yoḥanan Aleph (1 John) 1:7 (TS2009).

Reflection: To walk in the Name of יהושע Messiah is to walk in the light of His commands in fellowship with one another. In doing so, the blood of יהושע Messiah cleanses us from all sin. But if we walk in the darkness of rebellion and isolation we are not walking in יהושע Messiah.

Application: To walk in the Name of יהושע Messiah is to walk as He walked and that is to walk in obedience to His commands and to remain in fellowship with the Body of Messiah. We cannot walk in rebellion to His commands and claim the protection of the blood of יהושע Messiah. We cannot walk in isolation apart from the Body of Messiah and claim the protection of the Body of Messiah. To walk in rebellion and isolation and claim we are without sin is to mislead ourselves. When we mislead ourselves the truth is not in us. And when the truth is not in us we are much more likely to experience suicide, divorce, and disintegration after war.

Scripture. “And יהושע answered him, “The first of all the commands is, ‘Hear, O Yisra’ĕl, יהוה our Elohim, יהוה is one” Marqos (Mark) 12:29 (TS2009).

Reflection. The Hebrew word to hear is שָׁמַע and שָׁמַע implies the act of listening and obeying. According to יהושע Messiah, it is not enough to listen to His voice. We must also obey His commands. He commands us to love יהוה our Elohim with all of our heart, being, mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. There are no greater commands than these, and on these two commands hang all the Torah and the Prophets.

Application. Followers of יהושע Messiah have been grafted into Yisra’ĕl. יהושע Messiah is יהוה the Son in the flesh and He and יהוה the Father are one. To hear the voice of יהוה Elohim in our life necessitates the recognition of the identity of יהושע Messiah, as well as our identity in relation to Him. We are His sheep, and He is our Shepherd. If we desire to continue hearing the voice of the Shepherd, we must obey the voice of the Shepherd, as revealed through His Word. It is not enough to be hearers of His Word. We must also be doers of His Word. Moreover, an authentic relationship requires authentic communication. Just as we should not profess with our mouths to be married all the while ignoring the voice of our spouse and the terms of our vows, we cannot claim to be the Bride of יהושע Messiah all the while ignoring the voice of יהוה our Elohim and the terms of our covenant. Indeed, those who continue to ignore His voice and disobey His commands are much more likely to experience suicide, divorce, and disintegration after war.
