Scripture. “In the same way, husbands, live understandingly together, giving respect to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the favour of life, so that your prayers are not hindered” Kĕpha Aleph (1 Peter) 3:7 (TS2009).
Reflection. Entering into the covenant of marriage marks the beginning of living out a life in relationship. The covenant of marriage requires a relationship of understanding, respectfulness, and submission, all of which point to a life of covenant obedience to the King of Kings. When the husband lives a life in rebellion to the King of Kings, there is no favour, there is no life, and there is no prayer that will not be hindered.
Application. Military campaigns, even those commanded by יהוה Elohim, do not exempt the husband from the covenant of marriage and the requirements therein. The husband seeking to live in covenant obedience to the King of Kings must go to extraordinary lengths to reestablish his covenant of marriage in understanding, respectfulness, and submission after war. Indeed, the chasm between military campaigns and civilian life is wide, but the chasm is not so powerful that it cannot be overcome through prayer. On the other hand, failure to guard the commands of יהוה Elohim results in a prayer hindered by יהוה Elohim Himself, and continued rebellion to the King of Kings often ends in suicide, divorce, and disintegration after war.
